We all have a certain Podcast we love and listen to on the daily, right?
I mean, they are the new up-in-coming of what used to be radio. Unlike Pandora and Spotify which are mostly just music based, podcasts have a lot more depth and length to them. It’s not uncommon to hop in the car and turn on a podcast (especially if you have a lengthy drive ahead of you.) It’s created quite a buzz and there are thousands of different topics – Branding, Crime, Sports, Shopping. You name it, I’m sure it’s out there! So, have you thought of starting a Podcast for yourself? If so, we’re going to give you a heads up on everything you would need to start a podcast, as well as some snazzy shopping options on Amazon for those products (because let’s face it, we still want the cute stuff.)
So, what do you need to start?
- A Microphone
- A Hosting/Recording platform
First I’d like you to ask yourself:
Why do I want to start a podcast?
Foundationally speaking what’s your inspiration for starting one?
If you don’t have one I would say start there..,
Listen to some podcasts and find out what makes you tick! It requires a lot of time and dedication so make sure it’s something you’re passionate about. Just thinking, “oh here’s another gig I can make a couple bucks at” could unfortunately be in accurate thinking. Of course you can make money at it, but it’s going to take some time first! Finding your inspiration is going to be what takes you from being “Just Another Podcast” to “The People’s Podcast!”
When you have a subject you believe in:
- You sound professional
- The ideas flow & you will put more effort into it
- Passion is contagious so, by default, you will attract more attention
I mean let’s think about it, what if I started a Podcast based on skateboarding and had never skateboarded before? I would have no real insight to what it’s like and I would have limited knowledge about it, which in-turn would draw a limited audience. Let’s face it, I’d get more followers if I posted a video of myself on Youtube of my first time skateboarding and busting it! Quite an image I know but just a funny example to show the more passionate you are about something, the more attention it will draw.
